Who’s Charlotte, and why did she come up with Inspired Crew?

Born in December 1981, I’m a Sagittarius with a carefree dancing spirit, radiating joy and positivity.  According to the stars, I’m friendly, optimistic, empathetic, non-judgmental, and independent, and I’d say these traits fit me perfectly.

On the flip side

I could win a gold in procrastination, and I’m very careful about how big changes will affect my life. This cautiousness may be one of the reasons why it took me so long to get this business off the ground!

My parents separated when I was around 12, with my dad moving overseas and taking to the high seas!  It was from here that my brother and I would visit him once or twice a year. I loved those visits and was captivated by the lifestyle. It was then that I knew yachting was something I wanted to pursue. I finished college and set off at the young age of 20 to find myself a job, leaving the Southwest of England behind.

Yachting captured my heart for just over 20 years, offering a lifestyle filled with adventure and unforgettable moments.  The travel to counties I may not ever have visited, being in the middle of an ocean taking in breathtaking sunsets and sunrises, those “once in a lifetime” experiences, the best friends I’ve made and the tonne of other fascinating people I’ve met along the way have all contributed to memories that I will treasure forever.

Sure, I took some seasons off — It’s important to take a break and capture your breath back, especially after a hectic season.  These breaks were essential for recharging, reflecting and maintaining a healthy balance allowing me to return to the yachting world with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

“It’s important to take a break and capture your breath back, especially after a hectic season.”

It wasn't always easy

I personally experienced a couple of difficult situations that I shouldn’t have had to go through, and also witnessed countless times other crew members going through something onboard or trying to juggle work with personal issues.  I’ve had the stress of trying to keep up with the workload on very little sleep while trying my best to remain positive and smiley, and like many in the industry I went through a stormy onboard relationship! But all these things, and experiences have made me stronger, and have made me the person I am today.

Now, I’m not saying I was perfect, or even that I am now. I’ve enjoyed a drink or ten, stayed up until dawn chatting or dancing the night away, fully aware I’d be useless the next day… I’m glad to say these days are a rare occurrence as I’ve grown and learned what’s more important to me now.  One thing I will say though: I am kind. I always look for the best in people, I strive to be supportive and encouraging, and will consistently do my best to help others.

Right, what else do you want to know?!

I love running — I’m not particularly fast, but for me, it’s about getting outside, taking in the fresh air, and getting my steps in.  I’ve signed up for the London Royal Parks Half Marathon in October which i’m really looking forward to after completing it last year. I enjoy Pilates, though I should do it more often, and recently, I’ve started weightlifting which I’m loving — great for both body and mind. Big walks and exploring new places are huge passions of mine, taking pictures of anything that captures me along the way… which is generally quite a bit!!

Family and friends are hugely important to me, though they’re scattered far and wide. The upside? Free holiday accommodation!! Jokes aside, I treasure these moments as they can be few and far between. I love dancing and singing, though I’m hopeless at both. It’s good for the soul, and as I’ve gotten older, I care less about what people think… Just don’t be in the surrounding area at the time!! And did I mention I am a huge sucker for a beautiful sunrise or sunset, the colours, the moment in time, the peace of it all. I will forever be the girl that gets way too excited when the sky is full of pretty colours!

I’m now based south of London in the UK managing and running Inspired Crew. The idea came from my time onboard my last yacht, where at times we struggled to find crew with a secondary skill set that was required for a position onboard. I thought to myself, “Wouldn’t it be great to have all these talented and skilled crew members in one place?”

It took some time to find the perfect name “Inspired Crew”, but once I came across it, I knew it was the one. I don’t just envision this as only a recruitment agency; I see it as a source of inspiration. I want to ignite passion in others and build a community where individuals support and inspire each other to develop their talents and skills. It’s about showcasing those who are pursuing their passions and bringing  a fresh perspective to the forefront of the yachting industry.
